A remarkable and quite possibly unrepeatable opportunity to purchase an un-restored concourse Ford Escort RS1600i, with just 44797 miles and one previous owner since new.
Acknowledged as being one of the best, original and un-restored examples that are known to exist, cars of this quality very seldom come to the open market. Registered new on the 11th May 1983, this car has been loved, pampered and cherished since day one. Ordered with the factory tilt/slide sunroof and Tinted Glass, the original invoice is present within the file. Being the very first MK3 Escort to be registered with the RS Owners Club, this well known example has been kept in genuine concourse condition all of its life. Featured in the April 1998 edition of Classic Ford Magazine and the February 2002 edition of Practical Classics, this wonderful RS comes complete with an extensive history file that you would not believe. This is without doubt the best example that has come to market for many years.
Finished in Sunburst Red and still wearing all of its factory applied paint, the finish is simply superb. Only a few, very small well touched in stone chips are evident on the bonnet and A-posts...this again just demonstrates the authenticity of its originality. Every panel is original factory fit and date stamped and all panel gaps are linear straight. The RS1600i graphics are in excellent condition and again, they are original. Having been garaged and covered since new, the paintwork is still Sunburst Red and showing no signs of UV fade. All the spoilers, spot lights and fog lights that were unique to the RS1600i are like new...the rear spoiler is completely straight and the texture is as new...just wonerful! All the glass is scratch free and number plate etched.
The "Shark Grey" crushed velour seats have been covered since new and the rear seats have probably been used less than five or six times in the last 32 years. The seats are simply incredible and quite possibly the best, un-restored seats that you will find in any RS1600i. The bolsters are showing no sign of softness and the velour is showing no sign of fade...just gorgeous! The carpet, door cards, perforated headlining etc are as new. They are not just good or excellent...they really are as new. The dashboard is completely straight and un-cracked! All plastic trims are completely scuff free. The 4 spoke Leather Steering Wheel is like new. To look at this car inside, you would not believe that it has ever been used...it is genuinely factory fresh. Needless to say, the original Ford P21 push button radio is still present and in full working order. The unique "fuel cut-off warning lights" are fully working.
Engine and Transmission:
A wonderful, detailed engine bay is home to the standard, unmodified 1.6 CVH engine. Fitted with Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection, special alloy cylinder head and twin coils, it goes without saying that the very comprehensive history demonstrates the upkeep throughout its life. Serviced correctly and far more regularly than was necessary, the car runs and drives like the day it was purchased. A stainless steel Scorpion exhaust is the only aftermarket addition to this magnificent car. The original Ford back box is present should you wish to have a new one fabricated.
Wheels and Tyres:
Still wearing the correct Dunlop D4 tyres, including the spare wheel. The tread remaining is still as new and the tyres have covered less than 1000 miles. The correct 7 spoke Ford Motorsport alloy wheels are in excellent condition, showing only 2 very tiny chips to the near side rear and a very small airline scratch to the off side front.
Purchased new from Bristol Street Motors Cheltenham on the 11th May 1983 and having just one owner until February this year, the accompnying history file is nothing short of breath taking! From the original bill of sale right up to its current MOT...every single document is present. The file contains every receipt since new...every MOT, every tax disc...the original V5...absolutely everything. The original Blue Ford wallet is present. This includes a fully stamped srvice book, hand book, accessory booklet, radio operating guide, RS1600i supplement guide. Various letters are also present between the original owner and Ford UK with regards to the brakes and suspension. They clearly state a very disgruntled owner who was clearly not happy with the factory set up. After receiving a personal invitaion from Ford UK to visit Boreham in Essex and discuss the issue with Fords RS engineers, the car is one of only two RS1600i's to be fitted with the Series X suspension and brake upgrade...at the Ford factory! The other car is no longer around...this is the only one in existence!
We feel that this is a very unique opportunity to purchase an immaculate, unmolested example of this classic blue oval icon...We may never see a better example come to market. This car will appeal to the Ford perfectionist or serious car collector
