This is the very first time that this Ford Fiesta XR2i has ever been offered for sale on the open market since brand new.
A truly exceptional and completely original 1991 Ford Fiesta XR2i that has had just 1 owner since new and has covered only 55,816 miles. It has never had any panels replaced nor had any paintwork...it has never been welded either. It has just been sparingly used, enjoyed, loved and cherished and stored correctly.
These MK3 Fiestas are probably the rarest of all the XR models that still survive today. Every other XR in the range is by far easier to find in exceptional condition than to find an exceptional MK3. They are just virtually impossible to come by in a completely original, unmolested and unrestored state. Just mot history check 99% of them that come to market and they have had more corrosion and welding repairs than the Titanic!
This incredible little XR2i has been part of our private collection for the last 2 years. We have now decided that it is time for it to see daylight once again and for it to be enjoyed by a very lucky new owner. We have never used the car and we have never registered it into our name. The current V5 registration document states zero previous owners.
We instructed a local specialist to carry out a very thorough and comprehensive mechanical recommissioning at a cost in excess of £2500. We now have the peace of mind that the car is mechanically perfect. All fluids were drained and replaced. This included fuel, engine oil, gearbox oil, brake fluid and coolant. A full cam belt service was carried out along with all new filters, spark plugs etc. New injectors were sourced and fitted along with a new fuel pump. We also had the ECU sent away and rebuilt. A new idle control valve and ignition module were fitted along with a new crank sensor, map sensor, temp sensor and cold start sensor. New brake master cylinder fitted along with new discs and pads up front and new pads at the rear. 4 brand new Yokohama tyres were also fitted and a fresh mot carried out. This little car drives superbly and far better than we can ever remember them doing. It drives like new.
The underside is excellent and a quick wipe over reveals the original factory underseal and zero corrosion. Please appreciate that this car has never been a show car or been on the show scene. It is lovely and clean underneath, but is not some blinged up or repainted show queen. It has been the love of a private gentlemen that cherished it and admired it and as such it is just how Ford intended.
The car was ordered from Evans Halshaw Ford of Preston on the 7th January 1991. The original order form is contained within the history file and it confirms that the only option was a Ford alarm system at a cost of £233 and was linked to the central door locking. The car was then registered on the 11th January 1991. It was used sparingly and garaged every single night. In the early part of its life, it was maintained by Evans Halshaw Ford of Preston and then the owners Son who was a mechanic by trade took over the maintenance until the car was laid up on axle stands in the family garage in 2008. It remained there until we purchased in July 2018. The mechanical recommissioning was completed around 2 weeks ago.
The factory fitted body panels line up perfectly and the correct date mark stamps are clearly visible throughout and will delight originality seekers. There is zero filler in the body panels because the car has never been touched or repaired. The panel gaps and bumper fitment line up beautifully. The original dealer plates were removed and new plates with the owners name on were fitted. The front plate is now the original Evans Halshaw one, however, the rear plate was misplaced in storage. The factory applied Radiant Red paintwork is lovely and retains a very deep and consistent shine across all panels. Around 5 or 6 small and well touched in stone chips to the bonnet and a couple to the front bumper are all that can be found upon closer inspection and fit perfectly for an unrestored example. All lights are original and crystal clear and are all etched with the registration number...including the front fogs and long range driving lights. The lower rubber lip to the front bumper is again in lovely order. Weather strips and rubbers are excellent and confirm a low mileage and garage kept car. The factory fit tinted glass is in excellent order and is etched with the registration number along with the factory fit glass sunroof. Ford security stickers still remain in place in the windows. All bumper corners and side skirts are free from any scuffs, scrapes or scratches. The black body side mouldings are perfectly straight and have evidently never been removed and the blue inserts are still vivid and consistent in colour. All plastic wheel arch extensions are perfect. Hopefully the photos demonstrate just how nice this little car really is. It really is exceptional...
Open the door and you are immediately greeted with the smell of a brand new XR2i. The interior is as close to perfect as you will find. The Zolda cloth covered sports seats are excellent. The shape of the bolsters is perfect and the cloth hasn't stretched or lifted from the foam. The rear seats seem to have had very little or no use. Door cards front and rear are free from scuffs, scratches or marks. The 2 spoke leather trimmed sports steering wheel still retains the correct grain and the gear knob with blue inserts is excellent. The light grey carpet is ultra clean and has been protected by tailor fitted carpet mats since new. The dashboard is free from scratches and all the switch gear is fully functional and in perfect working order. The electric windows operate with ease and the central locking is working perfectly on both doors. Head lining is nice and tight and free from stains. The original Self Seek AM/FM Stereo Radio Cassette with 4 speakers is still in place and the security code is contained within the operating instructions booklet. The cabin feels a very special place to be and even more so considering its 30 years of age....just lovely!
Wheels and Tyres:
The correct and original 5.5 x 13 steel wheels with silver wheel covers are still fitted and are all wearing brand new 185/60/13 Yokohama tyres.
Mechanically, this little car is perfect following its very extensive recommissioning which is detailed above. It drives and performs beautifully. It feels responsive and the 5 speed gearbox is smooth and precise with no sloppiness that you very often find in these cars. It is just wonderful and it doesn't fail to put a huge smile on your face...what a trip down memory lane!
The original Ford owners handbook pack is complete with every booklet, leaflet etc. The service book is present and stamped and the current V5 is here which states zero previous owners. Both original keys ( 1 torch ) are present along with the little silver tag with the key numbers and the Ford alarm fob.
We very much doubt that there will be a MK3 XR2i or Fiesta RS Turbo of this calibre and pedigree on the market today and in our opinion, it is very unlikely that it will be replicated again.....and certainly not easy.
