Capri 1.6 Laser
A lovely, genuine and honest 1985 Ford Capri 1.6 Laser with a wonderful ownership provenance and a great history file, including the original factory build sheet. With just 74444 miles from new, this special edition Ford Capri is sure to delight...
First registered on 14th November 1985 by Bristol Street Motors of Cheltenham, it remained in the custody of its first owner for over 26 years. Having lead a pampered and easy life throughout this time, the car was always sheltered from the elements and kept in a heated garage, which explains why this car is so remarkably rust free. It was then returned to Bristol Street Motors throughout the years to have service work carried out, all of which is stamped in the original service booklet. Amazingly, the original factory build sheet, which shows exactly how it was configured along the production line is also present, showing every single item that the car was built with and also the factory codes. Keeping with the same theme, the original colour code sticker is also present on the boot floor. The original Bristol Street Motors Owners Guide contains all the correct manuals and handbooks that the car was supplied with when new, including the Ford Capri Operating Guide, Audio Booklet, Accessory Booklets, Extended Warranty leaflets, Service Book etc...the correct supplying dealer rear window sticker, tax disc holder, number plates and leather key fobs are also with the car. A host of old MOT certificates, old tax discs and the original V5 Log Book complete a very good history file.
Having reached the age to retire from driving in 2005, the car was tucked away in the heated garage at the family home. In 2012, upon the passing of the original owner, the ownership of the Capri was then transferred to his Son, where it remained garaged until this year. It was then obtained by a friend of the owners family who had known the car since brand new. The ownership was transferred in to his name, however he only owned the car for around 1 month before he sold it, due to the purchase of a MGC...a signed letter confirming this is in the file.
Due to the car being stored since 2005, a mechanical recommissioning has just been carried out, which included work on the brakes, rocker cover gasket, timing belt, water pump and a service...the car now runs and drives extremely well.
The bodywork is very good throughout. The factory Black paintwork still holds a nice, consistent and deep shine. There are some small, well touched in stone chips...all within keeping with the originality of a well cared for example. The panels are nice and straight and all the panel gaps are excellent. The car is remarkably rust free and the wheel arches are superb. Boot floor, inner and outer wings, bulkhead, battery tray, cross member, A-posts, slam panel etc are all excellent. Bumpers are all good, with just the odd small mark in places.
The interior is completely original and the original push button Radio Cassette and Electric Aerial are still present. The electric motor works, but the mast doesn't lift. The seats show very little sign of use and are in excellent condition, as are the door cards, carpet and headlining. The dashboard has a couple of small, hairline cracks. The original parcel shelf is completely straight and undamaged...quite a rare thing in itself these days.
All 5 alloy wheels carry the correct date stamp, showing June 1985. The wheels are in good condition, with just slight bubbling in places, however, they have never been refurbished. All tyres are matching and in good condition.
In summary, this will be one of the most solid unrestored Capri's around. It is in excellent condition throughout and complete with a comprehensive history file. It is just a lovely, genuine and very honest car...
