A very rare chance to purchase a truly stunning 1990 MK1 Citroen AX GT 3 door in a completely un-molested and un-modified state. Supplied brand new in June 1990 by the Isle Of Wight's main Citroen dealer 'Central Garage LTD' this outstanding little car remained on the Island and in the same ownership until 2001 and at this point, had covered a mere 11000 miles from new. The first owner then decided that due to increasing age and decreasing mobility, it was now time to part with his beloved French 'Hot Hatch'....

The car remained within the family and the ownership was taken over by the gents daughter, who used, maintained and cherished the car right up until 2013. Upon retirement, the decision was made to find a new home for the little Citroen. At this point, the car had covered just 53000 miles...Prior to sale, the engine was thoroughly gone through and a major service, including cam belt, water pump, etc was carried out. The 'Diamond' cut alloy wheels were sent away to Pristine Wheels and treated to a complete tyre-off refurbishment, and we have got to say, the finish is outstanding, it really is...we would go as far as to say that the finish is far better than when the car was new! The wheels were then finished with brand new Michellin tyres. Since this work was carried out, the mileage covered is less than 2000 miles...

The car was then marketed by 4 Star Classics in Kingsley and a new, loving home was found. Those of you that saw the advert at the time may remember that the advert stated just how nice this car was, but also stated that to make the car perfect, they would recommend re-painting the roof, due to very common lacquer peel. The new owner decided to leave the car as it was and just enjoy it on the occasional, sunny day. Since acquiring this incredible little GT, we have had the roof re-painted to a very high standard...and yes, it now looks stunning!

It is amazing that this car has managed to escape the 'Boy Racer' add-ons...apart from the change of Stereo and the Laser-line Thatcham 2 Immobiliser, the car remains completely, 100% standard and as it left the factory. The only reason that the Stereo was changed was because a fault developed on the original unit and the decision was made to change it. Even then, time was taken to source a period unit that lights up the same colour as the dashboard.

The paint finish is just lovely and the panel gap is superb...the car still retains all of its original factory fitted panels and is corrosion free. There is the odd little stone chip that has been touched in over the years, but the car really is lovely!

The interior just oozes 1980s French charm and is as close to new as you will ever find. The seats are superb and the material is un-stretched and still remains amazingly bright...The carpet is like new, still retaining its deep pile and the bright Red stripe is unmarked. The headlining is excellent and the dashboard is unmarked. All switchgear works perfectly, as do the electric front windows and central locking. The 3 spoke steering wheel retains its correct grain...the gear-knob plastic has cracked on the top. Even the ultra rare sunroof bag is still present, as are the original tools. The cabin is a fantastic place to be and is just nostalgia filled...superb!

As you would expect with a car that has been as cherished as this one, the history file is superb. It contains service receipts, old mot's, letters from previous owners, loads and loads of bills that just show the amount of love that this little car has received from day one and throughout its life...right up to present day. It just makes amazing reading. Original handbook pack is present along with 2 keys and immobiliser fobs. Mot until July 2017.

In summary...with less than 40 Citroen AX GT's registered and on the road today, we feel that the investment opportunity is very safe. These are great little drivers cars and represent incredible value for money compared with other Hot Hatches of the 1980s. It is only a matter of time before values start chasing the likes of the 205 GTi, Renault 5 GT Turbo etc...the difficulty will be finding one in any condition. This example has got to be the best one that has been marketed for a number of years...
