A stunning 1982 Ford Escort MK3 XR3 5 speed none injection, with just 25739 miles from new!
Quite possibly the rarest model of this iconic "Fast Ford" that defined and dominated sales figures throughout the 1980s. The 5 speed none injection cars were only ever produced between February 1982 and October of that year, before the launch of the XR3i in October/November 1982.
Finished in the cost option of Strato Silver metallic with the original and correct Red Laser trim, this ultra low mileage example is quite simply, stunning! Unrestored cars are now getting very thin on the ground and to find one with just 25739 miles is nigh on impossible...
Still wearing its correct and date stamped panels, the panel gaps and fit are superb. The car is remarkably straight down both sides and is free of any body filler. The date stamps on the front wings, rear wheel arches and underneath the doors are clearly visible. The front slam panel has never been disturbed and neither has the boot floor or back panel. The original factory wax oil is clearly visible underneath the wheel arches. The original battery tray is still in place and has been protected by a clear coat of wax oil. The correct Bronze tinted glass is still in place and is excellent and the rear window still has the supplying dealer window sticker intact. The boot floor, spare wheel well and back panel are superb and the factory stickers still remain. The underside of the car presents extremely well and it is evident that no welding has ever been carried out. The underside is very clean and all original running gear is in place, apart from the exhaust. This incredible example really does defy its years and to put it into perspective, if this car was 2 years old, it would still be described as an immaculate car that would be difficult to replicate.
Internally the car is as close to new as you will find. Having escaped any kind of modification or "upgrade" it really is a pleasure to see one of these in such a completely untouched state. The original Laser trimmed sports seats are superb. They still retain their deep Anthracite colour and the Red striping is vibrant. The cloth is stretch free and the bolsters still tight. A slight indent on the outer bolster can't be seen, but is the only evidence that the car has been used. The rear seats are exceptional and showing no sign of use and the vinyl rear door cards are distortion free and unmarked. The "deep cut-pile" carpet is again unmarked. The Black perforated headlining is superb and the overhead digital clock is crystal clear. The front door cards are superb. The original 2 spoke steering wheel is still in place and is showing its original grain along with the gear knob. The original Ford P21 push button radio is in place and in full working order. The dashboard is just lovely...it still retains its original and un-faded colour and is completely crack and distortion free...this alone is just evidence of the car being stored correctly and away from UV light and heat. The glove box fitment is the best that we have ever seen. The boot carpet and internal rear quarter plastics are as new...Just lovely!
The correct "Clover Leaf" alloy wheels are unmarked and virtually new tyres are fitted all round. The original spare alloy wheel remains in the wheel well along with all the correct tools.
Out on the road, the car performs exactly as you would expect. The car starts first time on the fully functional automatic choke and then settles into a nice, smooth, quiet idle. The 5 speed gearbox is superb and is smooth and precise. The car is rattle free and feels remarkably modern. The steering is well balanced and lovely to use...even by todays standards this car will still provide the "grin on your face" experience!
First registered by the Ford main dealer, Truro Ford of Cornwall on the 4th October 1982, this incredible car remained in the care of the first registered keeper until June of 2008. It was then registered for less than a month to a dealer before being registered to its third and final owner in July of 2008. It has remained in his care until now...
Complete with the original hand book pack and user manuals, a few old MOTs and 2 keys. Current MOT until October 2017. Having benefitted from a very recent cam belt service the car is ready to be used and enjoyed.
