A truly incredible 1988 Austin Metro 1.0 City. Having covered just 3,422 miles since new, this little car has been preserved in a completely remarkable state and it must be one of the best survivors available.
Finished in Targa Red with Flint Hounds-tooth cloth, the originality and overall condition of this car really is outstanding. Having been tucked away in a heated garage for nearly 25 years, it is very evident that the storage conditions were perfect and everything is as close to a new Metro as you are likely to find. The paintwork retains it's original depth of shine and is uniform across all panels. A few small touch up's from long term storage do not detract from a stunning finish. Supplying dealer number plates front and rear and the rear window sticker are still fitted. The original City decals remain in place and are free from damage or fade. All original badges are excellent and bright. Bumpers and corner plastics are still the correct texture and are in excellent condition. The Unipart headlamps and rear light lenses are as new. The original factory fit glass is security etched and completely unmarked and free from any scratches or chips. The window rubbers and weather strips are superb and in a as new condition...again, this is evidence that the car has been stored correctly and has never seen a winter on the roads. The boot floor is as new and the spare wheel still retains the un-used Michelin tyre in metric size. Factory spot welds are clearly visible on all wheel arches and they remain in a truly outstanding condition. Door shuts, door frames and apertures are as clean and original as new. Tailgate hinges are again as new. A truly superb and un-molested survivor!
Internally, the simplicity really is charming. The Flint Hounds-tooth covered seats are as new, both front and rear. The internal door release, window wipers and door cards are free from marks or damage and they are distortion and lift free. The carpet and rubber foot mat are as new. The dashboard is superb...the period Moss alarm sensor is the only addition. The steering wheel and gear knob still retain the original and as new grain. The correct radio blanking plate is still fitted. The head lining is completely tight and free from sagging and it is as clean as the day the car left the showroom. The boot mat is as new and the boot area looks like it is un-used. A completely un-marked and time warp interior.
The engine bay is truly amazing and will delight even the most critical of Austin Rover enthusiasts. It is correct and totally as new. All hoses are correct and remain supple. Factory stickers are un-marked and correct and every nut, bolt and screw is free from oxidisation. The underside is just as nice and all the factory applied wax oil still remains. It is clear for anyone to see that this car has never been damaged or welded. It is just as new...just lovely.
The 998 cc A Series engine sounds and feels like brand new. The manual choke works perfectly and the car drives like new. The car only had one visit to the supplying dealer for it's first service on the 27th February 1989 and it had covered just 242 miles. Before it reached it's next service, the car was laid up correctly for nearly 25 years. Woken from it's slumber in 2014, it was then lightly mechanically re-commissioned. This included new plugs and all filters and fluids and a new water pump. The brakes were cleaned from a light glazing, however the original pads still remain. The original Michelin metric tyres are still in excellent condition...however, just due to age we would not recommend for road use. It has since been owned by two additional Austin Metro enthusiasts.
Overall, a very, very rare opportunity to purchase a 30 year old Austin Metro which is as close to new as you are likely to ever find. Just a lovely, un-molested and genuine survivor.
