Metro Vanden Plas
|Colour||Pulsar Silver Metallic|
A lovely, very rare and unmolested range topping1982 MK1 Austin Metro 1.3 manual Vanden Plas. Having covered a genuine 12,361 miles since new in the hands of just two previous keepers, this incredible piece of British motoring heritage has been beautifully preserved.
Following the addition of the Vanden Plas to the Metro model range in May 1982, this very early example was ordered from Droitwich Garage LTD upon launch and was first registered on the 1st August 1982 on the new Y registration prefix. After 3 years of ownership, the first keeper retired from driving and the little Metro then became the pride and joy of his Son were it remained loved and cherished for the next 13 years. It was then purchased by a family friend and it has remained in his ownership ever since ( just over 20 years ).
Having benefitted from cavity wax injection treatment from new ( receipt/guarantee provided ) it is very evident that it has certainly done its job. This true "survivor" is still wearing all of its factory fitted panels and factory applied paint and the floor pans, sills, boot floor, wheel arches etc are completely original. The factory paint finish really is lovely and a sheltered and garaged lifestyle since new is evident. All panel gaps are excellent throughout. The car is arrow straight down both sides. The original Bronze tinted glass is free from scratches or chips and the factory fit removeable glass sunroof is free from rusty water marks. Even the "elusive" sunroof bag is still stored in the boot. Correct Lucas headlamps are crystal clear and indicator lenses are free from cracks or damage. Window rubbers are still supple and in great order, along with all weather strips. Original supplying dealer number plates front and rear are still fitted and the Droitwich Garage rear window sticker still remains. All bright work is excellent and the original badges and VP decals are intact and free from damage. A really lovely example presented in a wonderfully preserved state.
Internally, it really is exceptional and genuinely is a special place to be. The blue "Rachelle" seats are as new both front and rear and the deep pile carpet is excellent. The door cards and wooden cappings are superb. The dashboard is free from any cracks and the rubberised VP dashboard mat is present. All switchgear is fully operational and in very good cosmetic condition. The rev counter incorporated digital clock displays perfectly and is lovely and clear. Original push button radio is still in place and in perfect working order. The headlining is super clean. Genuine Austin Mini Metro rubber mats have been fitted since new and are still in lovely condition. The rear parcel shelf is completely straight and undamaged and it has no colour fade from UV light. Both string hangers still hold it in place. The tailgate gas struts have weakened with age and don't always keep the tailgate open. The deep pile boot carpet is remarkably clean and still looks like new. The unused spare wheel is housed inside the spare wheel well and it still has the original and unused factory fitted tyre. All original tools are correct and the original tool bag is still present along with the sunroof bag. This range topping interior would have been very special in 1982....some 36 years later and it really does feel very, very special indeed.
The 1275 cc A-Series engine starts first time every time and without fuss. The manual choke works perfectly. Having benefitted from regular servicing throughout its life, this little car really is great fun to drive and the go-kart feel is guaranteed to bring a smile. The 4 speed manual gearbox is smooth and precise. A full service including the water pump and a 12 months mot will be completed upon sale.
This car really is in a lovely and original condition, however, being an unrestored 36 year old car, it is not without its imperfections. There are some touch ups on the wheel arches and small scuffing on the drivers side sill kick plate. The odd marks here and there. The front bumper has blistered slightly. These do not really detract from the car to be fair. It really is lovely and is delightful to see in such original condition.
The paperwork file is excellent for such a low mileage car and contains over 20 old mot certificates and tax discs, service receipts and invoices, original owners handbook pack including all warranty leaflets etc. Current V5 and two sets of original keys are present and are attached to the supplying dealer key ring.
