Mk1 Fiesta XR2
Due in week commencing 20th June...East Lancashire Classics are thrilled to see the return of this little MK1 Fiesta XR2. We previously re-homed this car the back end of last year, however, due to a change in the owners circumstances, we will now be marketing the car once again.
First registered in 1982 and with just 3 previous owners since new, this fantastic original car has covered just 70541 miles.
A regular competitor in the XR Owners Club 'Concourse De Elegance' and always coming away with either first or second place, this car really is stunning. Finished in metallic Strato Silver, all panel fit and paint finish are superb. A few small stone chips to the bonnet edge just confirm the originality of this stunning, un-restored example, A small nick in the XR2 decals on the drivers door and a couple of small paint blemishes are all that you will find under close scrutiny on this now very rare, unmolested survivor. We knew, last time that we had the car that the drivers side front wing had been replaced...we just didn't know when or why. We were very kindly contacted by the second owner of the car and he shed some light on it. When he used to show the car, someone ran in to the wing on a pedal bike, hence, the wing was replaced along with the front bumper. Please note that this was around 1994 and did not affect its standing in the Concourse results.
The interior is excellent. The 'soft feel' dashboard is remarkably crack free. The perforated headlining is superb and no sunroof is fitted. The rear door cards are the best that we have ever seen, with no lift at all on the vinyl. The carpet and seats are again excellent, showing only the smallest amount of stretch to the cloth. The drivers side door card has lost some of the grey plastic coating on the top divider strip. A very period 'Moss Alarm' infra red detector and an aftermarket radio cassette are the only additions to this wonderful interior. Please note, the original push button radio is still with the car, should the new owner wish to install.
A very well detailed and exceptionally clean engine bay is the home to the 1.6 Kent cross flow power unit which is linked to a very smooth and precise 4 speed gearbox. Still fitted with an original, genuine Ford exhaust system, this little car sounds superb when it fires in to life. Soon after starting, the correctly working twin choke settles the car to an almost silent and smooth idle...the quietness of the engine really is impressive
The original Ford service booklet and a host of old mots and tax discs are present within the comprehensive history file. Since 1998, the mileage covered is less than 500 miles and the car has only been used for show purposes since then. Having always been stored correctly and then forming part of a private collection for the last few years, we now feel that maybe it is time get it back on to the show circuit. 12 months MOT will be put on the car once it arrives back with us.
This is a real rare find indeed and with prices of good examples now reaching the mid to late teens...maybe now is a good time to purchase this fast appreciating Ford icon.
